Early December I headed to Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman, a place that had been on my travel wish-list for years. I’d heard so many good things about this remote resort and couldn’t wait to arrive for four nights of tranquillity. From the moment we arrived, I felt instantly relaxed. I loved the push bikes waiting for us outside our private villa so we could make our way around the resort, adding to the rustic vibe. I loved being somewhere and having nowhere else to go- unlike other destinations you visit with a long list of beaches/restaurants you want to try- at Zighy Bay you’re in a remote bay, so you enjoy the experiences the resort has to offer. And I loved their sustainability efforts- no single-use plastic is used at Eco-Friendly Zighy Bay.

Fly…

We flew into Dubai (The nearest airport) where the hotel had arranged Transport to drive us the 2 hours to the remote Six Senses Zighy Bay. You have to cross the Dubai/Oman border so need visas that again the hotel arranged for us. Once you hit the steep mountains you know you’re getting near. It’s like a scene from a movie and sets the tone that you’re arriving somewhere pretty special.

Sleep…

Standalone Villas are scattered around the village or along the beach and surrounded by the mountains and sea, a truly magical setting. All villas have a private pool; ours had a bedroom, lounge area and outside terrace surrounding the pool. The option of an indoor or outdoor shower was a nice touch too. They are all incredibly private and rustic.

Do…

On arrival, we were greeted by our GEM (Guest Experience Manager) Karthik, who helped to make our stay as relaxing or as adventurous as we required. Karthik would organise our itinerary every day making sure we didn’t miss any of the fantastic experiences the resort had to offer. I’m not one for too much adventure on holiday, preferring to chill and read a book on the beach rather than go off thrill seeking but Zighy Bay manages to combine the two seamlessly. Mornings on the beach followed by an afternoon Paragliding- up early for a Sunrise Breakfast in the mountains followed by an afternoon in the Spa was how our trip went, and I loved every second. We even got to enjoy a movie on the beach at their pop-up cinema.

Eat…

The food. oh my god the food. And I’m not a foodie. All produce is grown on the resort (they have an organic garden) or sourced locally, creating a farm to table concept. The taste of everything down to the sweet potato fries (yes, I’m obsessed with them) to the fresh ice cream is incredible. We had Breakfast at the Spice Market most mornings & enjoyed casual lunches on our sun loungers; the food was one of the highlights for us. On the first night, we headed to an authentic Bedouin style dining experience at Shua Shack, and I think this was one of my favourite nights.

A relaxed setting on the sand enjoying slow roasted lamb washed down with whispering angel…

We also went to the seafood bbq on the beach, fairy lights hung on the palm trees dotted around the tables and a fantastic choice of food was on offer. A bbq was organised for us around our private pool one evening, and we also ate at Sense on the Edge, a restaurant built into the mountains with views across the Gulf of Oman. We woke at 6 am one morning to travel up the mountains for a sunrise breakfast: breathtaking views and memorable experience. You can make the most of the hotel’s experiences or order room service to enjoy in the privacy of your villa- whichever you choose you will not be disappointed with the food at Siz Senses Zighy Bay.

Wear…

Six Senses Zighy Bay is incredibly relaxed, and the dress code is super casual. My idea of heaven as I never pack heels for a beach holiday. Days were spent in my Eres swimming costume (In invested in one years ago and it’s by far my favourite piece of swimwear) with denim cut-offs or a linen outfit from Posse an Australian brand that has some stylish holiday pieces. Plus all the usual suspects- Rae Feather Beach Bags, TKEES sandals, Celine Baby Audrey Sunnies and a dress I bought before I left from Studio B’s collaboration with Johanna Sands.
