Lou & Em’s Mallorca Guide

Every Summer we head out to Mallorca with our families. We’ve been visiting this gorgeous Island for many years now and are still finding hidden gems every time we visit. We’ve put together our guide to the Island.

Lou & Em’s Mallorca Guide…

We always stay in South West Mallorca. Puerto Portals is where we spend a lot of our time but we love venturing out and exploring the rest of the Island too. One of the many reasons we fell in love with Mallorca is the charming city of Palma. It’s a must visit if only to view the stunning cathedral. Deia & Soller are beautiful towns too, well worth a drive out for a mooch around.

Where to eat…

Flanigan (Portals) – by far our favourite restaurant in Mallorca, great to visit with kids, a large group or for a romantic dinner. Traditional Spanish menu, think Tapas, Sangria & Paella!

Diablitos (Portals) – Enjoy a Pizza over looking the port in this relaxed Pizza/Pasta restaurant. A cool, buzzy vibe, they have a DJ on the terrace. A favourite of our kids.

Cappuccino (Portals) – we spend a lot of time here, the perfect meeting point for an after dinner cocktail or an early, informal dinner.

Forn (Palma) – enjoy upmarket Tapas (we get through plates of jamon) in an old bakery. Extensive wine list.

Koa (Palma) – Owned by the same family as Forn and located directly opposite. Lovely meat dishes & pizzas.

Cap Rocat ‘Sea Club’- Visited this hotel restaurant for the first time last year and was blown away. Perfect for a special occasion. Magical place.

Ran de mar (Soller) – Not tried but we’ve been recommended this restaurant that sits along the seafront in Port Soller. We’re really looking forward to exploring Soller more this year.

Best Beaches…

Cala Cap Falco- Our best days are spent here. A small beach cove, with a little hut that produces the most amazing feast. Platters of fresh fish & Sangria are enjoyed at this rustic beach.

Illetas- A lovely little beach, gets very busy so head there early to nab a sun-bed or spot in the sand.

Es Trenc- 2km of Golden Sand & Crystal Clear waters, Es Trenc has been likened to a Caribbean beach and it really is stunning. We ate at the beach bar which had a real buzzy vibe but food wasn’t great. We’ve been informed of a Paella bar tucked away in the sand dunes so will be on the lookout this year!

Formentor- One of Mallorca’s legendary beaches. The opposite end of the Island to where we stay but worth making the trip. A lovely beach with shallow waters. All the amenities of sun-beds/restaurant/bar.

Puerto Portals- Our local beach, gets very busy, great for kids- they had inflatables in the sea last Summer.

Beach Bars/Restaurants…

Hotel Bendinat- Old school restaurant on the water’s edge. Has become a regular Sunday afternoon haunt for us. Fresh fish and delicious wine while watching the waves crash below.

Las Terrazas- Casual restaurant on Illetas beach, perfect to escape the sun for a long lunch if you’re having a beach day. We also go for dinner with the kids, when the beach empties out the kids can run around while you watch them from the terrace.

Roxy’s Beach Bar- The coolest bar/shack on the water’s edge. Perfect place to plot up for the day/night and enjoy a margarita or two. Light snacks/salads on the menu.

Ca’s Patro- One of our favourite spots. We discovered this beach restaurant a few years back and make sure we visit once or twice during the Summer. It’s on a rocky beach so we usually just go for lunch… Fresh food, great views & a rustic vibe. One of our absolute favs.

Gran Follies- A cool beach club with pool & restaurant. Hire beds and enjoy a bit of luxury.

Sa Foradada- Best to arrive by boat to enjoy paella in a stunning spot. We made the mistake of walking down the moantains to Sa Foradada last year, not to be recommended in flip flops or with small children… It’s more of a hike (and remember if you walk down, you walk back up!) Beautiful, beautiful spot.

Where to stay…

Mardavall– if money is no object, luxury, family friendly hotel.

Hospes Maricel– adults only, an amazing spot right on the sea front.

The Lindner– where our friends stay when they come out to visit, fab pool area for kids (especially younger ones) spacious, contemporary rooms, food not great but you’re so close to Portals so spoilt for good eateries near by.

Cap Rocat– A former military fortress in a secluded part of Palma Bay. Stunning hotel.

Hotel Sant Francesc– A new 5-star hotel in the heart of Palma.
