How to keep your cool

We get a lot of questions on how to keep your cool when you reach your late 30/40’s. You may have just had a baby or lost your way a little bit when it comes to your dress sense. We’ve all been there. As we age, we worry about not wanting to look like we’re still clinging onto our 20’s with the fashion choices we make, and may not have the confidence to try new trends/style, so more often than not we get into a Style Rut.  Dressing ‘cool’ is innate in some women; Christina Centenara, Emmanuel Alt, Zanna Rassi Roberts, Veronica Heilbrunner, all very different dress sense yet they have such a distinguished, stylish look. How do they achieve it? First off, confidence, they know what works for them, and they stick to a Style Uniform adapted to their personal style. Check out our Style Uniform video on our YouTube channel to see what pieces make up the core of our wardrobe. There are also little tweaks you can make to your day-to-day look to add a little cool factor without adopting a whole new style.

The Tuck…

Emmanuel Alt mastered the art of the T.Shirt Tuck, merely tucking the front of your tee into your jeans and leaving the rest out. Hides a multitude of sins and is a simple trick to add some cool to your look.

Essential in winter and allows us to get maximum wear from our summery pieces. A black roll neck looks just as stylish worn alone under a blazer/leather jacket as it does with a silk camisole or simple Band Tee. Layering is not only super chic; it’s a great way to stay warm and cosy. Layer chunky knits over floral dresses and skirts.

Make sure you get any clothes in your wardrobe that you don’t feel very stylish in altered. Stylish Parisians swear by it. Blazers, Black Trousers, pieces that aren’t doing anything for your shape. Chop the bottoms of your jeans off if they’re too long, it’s all about the crop, showing a little ankle is super flattering.

Accessories can make all the difference when finishing off your look. An across body bag, simple jewellery and statement sunglasses are all essential pieces we turn too. Bags that go across your body give an instant cool factor. With jewellery invest in some delicate pieces that you can wear every day, cute studs, a pretty necklace or coloured bracelets are all pieces we wear every day. We also love to add a brooch to our denim jacket/blazers. With Sunglasses stick to classic shapes.
