Dreamy Deià

Last month I ticked off a travel destination that had been on my list for some time. I had visited Deià a few times but only briefly, passing through on my way to Ca’s Patro March, the stunning beach restaurant in Cala Deià. Each time I passed through I promised myself that I’d come back and spend some real time in this quaint village and I’m so glad I did. Last month I checked into Belmond La Residencia, the most famous and charming hotel in Deià. Nestled amongst the magical Tramuntana mountains, Belmond La Residencia was the perfect base for a relaxing two days on my favourite Island.

The Tramuntana Mountains that surround Deià are believed to exude positive, healing energy…

Belmond La Residencia– ‘Tranquility in the Tramuntana Mountains’ is how they describe themselves, and I couldn’t agree more; from the moment we checked in I felt instantly relaxed. The setting is truly magical, waking up to views across the mountains, and no matter the weather (we had a mix of sunshine & rain) the view was equally as breathtaking.

We stayed in the Matthew Williamson suite, and it was spectacular. Full of colour and pattern, Matthew’s signature style, but mixed with the bohemian vibe of Deià- rustic charm with a hint of glamour, and I felt instantly at home. The private pool and huge lounge area made staying in the suite all the more special, a real hideaway.

It’s no wonder that some guests have been returning for the last 25 years. This charming hotel ticks all the boxes; The setting, facilities, food and staff all made our stay extra special.

Lunch at La Residencia’s Café Miró- we enjoyed Rosé & Tapas on the day we arrived taking in the views at this scenic spot, super relaxed and just what we were looking for after an early start.

Dinner at El Olivio- We saved the best until last and had dinner here on our last night. What a treat. Meditarean cuisine in a romantic setting.

Lunch at Nama- We stumbled across Nama during a walk through the village and had a long leisurely lunch on the covered terrace while the rain was coming down around us, making the views all the more stunning. We shared Asian Fusion food and a bottle of wine while listening to Acoustic Covers (my new Apple Music obsession) playing over the speakers. Check out the cocktail bar next door to, which has also had the Matthew Williamson touch.

Ca’s Patro March- An old favourite of ours and if you’ve read our Mallorca guide, you would’ve heard of this gem. We had to head there for lunch. I love the rustic vibe- fresh fish and the sound of the waves as you’re literally on a cliff top. My absolute favourite spot.

Sa Foradada- best to arrive by boat. Otherwise, you’re in for a long walk down. The most incredible spot to enjoy paella.

Restaurante Sebastian- we didn’t make it here as ran out of time but heard it’s excellent.

Take out a Moped- we hired one from Bullimoto and took it down to Ca’s Patro March. After a long lunch we rode up the road in time for sunset, I didn’t catch the name of the bar we went to, but it was above Sa Foradada so head there, and you’ll find it. They claim to have the best sunset in the world, and it was one of the most stunning I’ve seen.

Walk- Belmond La Residencia has a gorgeous trail called Poets Walk, have a wander up there to take in the glorious views and stumble across some donkeys along the way. The village is also worth exploring, take a hike up to the church.

Art- Deià is famous for its bohemian charm and artists and poets who live in the area. Check out the art galleries (La Residencia has some incredible exhibitions and even offer Art classes) and also visit the Robert Graves museum, the writer’s house is open to the public.

Boat Trip- Take a boat trip, the best way to take in the beauty of the Island.

Deià is super relaxed, and even though Belmond La Residencia is a Five Star hotel, the bohemian vibe meant the dress code was casual. I packed cotton dresses for day, a satin skirt for dinner at El Olivio & Denim shorts and Leopard Print for our moped ride, plus silk PJ’s for lounging around our suite.
