Stylish Activewear

January, when everyone seems to have a renewed energy. New Year, New Goals, New Gym Wear? Call us shallow but new gym kit spurs us on to venture to the gym and if we have a last minute change of heart, we still look good to go grab a coffee (yes that happened). The gym has to fit into our busy schedules so what we actually wear there has to tick a few boxes, presentable enough for the school run, practical enough for the actual workout bit and stylish enough to stay in for the rest of the day running errands (we don’t work up that much of a sweat if we’re honest!) What we wear to workout in has changed as we’ve gotten older and now we’re in our 30’s plus we like to invest in quality. Leggings that hold you in, Sports Bras that support & Trainers that last are as important as looking stylish. We love working out but like everyone dip in and out of the routine, finding a way to fit it into our work/life balance is key which is why what we wear to workout in is important to us.

We try to incorporate some of our everyday wardrobes into our gym kit. Throw a cool leather or bomber jacket over your leggings & vest to instantly smarten up your look. The same with knits, they’re perfect to wear to and from the gym, layer over your workout gear to keep cosy, don’t think you have to invest in head to toe fitness wear.

Activewear Brands to know…

COOL ACTIVEWEAR BRANDS A STYLE ALBUM

Want to know the coolest Activewear brands on the market, we’ve rounded up our top 3…

P.E Nation– Co-founded by super cool Australian Stylist Pip Edwards (check out her Instagram & you’ll know what we mean) this brand is an eclectic mix of street, sport and luxe fashion. We’re obsessed and will be stepping up our Gym game immediately. Check out the P.E Nation pop up at Selfridges from the 9th Jan.

LNDR– Athleisure that fits into the active modern lifestyle. Effortless and functional pieces, Lou is very particular with her leggings and loved the fit of LNDR.

Varley– We fell in love with nearly every piece in the Varley lookbook. Almost too good for the gym… Almost. Varley believes good things come to those who sweat.

Trainers…

Amp up your gym game with your choice of footwear. Adidas re-released 90’s Fave EQT are the sneakers to have this season if you’re lucky enough to get your hands (feet) on a pair. Nike Fly Knit are firm favourites of ours. Comfort is a priority, Nike & Adidas are our go-to’s.

Leggings…

We all want leggings that will hold you in in all the right places, especially when you’ve hit the over 30 mark. We’ve tried High Street ones but they really don’t give the same amount of hold as sportswear or designer brands. Lou lived in her trusty Lululemon leggings during her time on Strictly, but I think the LNDR have prised her away. Lou also favours a Capri style, slightly cropped to show a bit of ankle. We love the fun prints around at the moment.

Sports Bra…

Super important whether you have big boobs (Lou) or not (Em). We, like most 30 plus year olds wouldn’t set foot in a gym wearing a bra top & leggings alone (them days are long gone if they even existed?), but they’re a must for support and look great layered with vests. Em opts for bright colours under neutral vests and Lou loves Nike’s Essentials Bra, the high neck gives that extra bit of coverage that is much needed in certain gym situations.

Tee’s & Vests…

Anything goes when it comes to tops, as long as it’s breathable. We prefer looser vests layers over sports bras. The Upside have great ones. Invest in Sportswear brands or buy racer back vests on the high street in neutral colours.

Keeping warm…

Again you don’t have to spend on specialist sports brands for sweatshirts, although they’re some stylish ones around. Layer with knitwear you already own. A rollneck always keeps us warm travelling to & from the gym.

If you still need extra motivation to start working out, buy a Fitbit. Trust us when we tell you they’re addictive. Chuck the below into a sports bag & you’re ready to go!

Good luck getting further than the coffee shop in your activewear…
