Eat, Sleep, Shop, Repeat.

Earlier this month I headed to LA for a week of relaxing, or so I thought; my 16-year-old daughter had other ideas, and we spent our week exploring Los Angeles. It’s one of my favourite places, and I can’t wait to return to the City of Angels. As most of you will know, planning and booking a holiday can be time-consuming, so I enlisted the help of DialAFlight to help with my trip. Lou & I have both used DialAFlight for years, and we find that they always come back with competitive prices, and make the process as easy as possible. Despite the name, it’s not only flights they book; they also have some fantastic hotels and can guide you as to what would suit your needs and budget. The thing I like most about booking with DialAFlight is that you get to speak to someone, a real-life person! So rare these days, and something I’ve always been cautious about when booking a holiday online: have I entered the right dates/names, got the right airport, and of course, the best price? It takes a lot of stress out of the holiday planning when can pick up the phone and have a conversation with a DialAFlight agent who will work with you right up until you travel.

Sleep…

The Beverly Hills Hotel.

For one magical night, I checked us into the Beverly Hills Hotel, and it was worth every Dollar. Pricey, yes, but the atmosphere of this place is incredible. We were in Pink Palace heaven. The rooms are traditional but incredibly luxurious and who doesn’t love the famous pink with palm tree branding. We spent our first-night watching movies with room service fighting jet-lag, the following day after breakfast at the infamous polo lounge we strolled to Rodeo Drive, then headed back to the hotel to lounge around the pool. I was so sad to check out of this Beverly Hills Institution; it was everything I’d hoped it would be after spending a childhood watching Troop Beverly Hills.

The Line.

We couldn’t have gone from one extreme to the other more. Going to The Line after the Beverly Hills was a shock to the system, but that’s not to say it’s not a good hotel. Different regarding location, service, and accommodation. It’s in the hip, upcoming Korea Town; the rooms are small but stylish with an INCREDIBLE view (the best thing about the hotel) and the pool on the rooftop had a relaxed, laidback vibe. For a young couple, I think it’s a good affordable option.

Mr C.

After two nights at The Line, we decided to head back to Beverly Hills and checked into Mr C. I’d heard good things about this place, and it was perfect for what we needed. An excellent location in Beverly Hills (my preferred position next time would be West Hollywood as this is where we spent most of our time) and the rooms and service were luxurious. I felt the hotel lacked atmosphere, but I think nothing was going to come close to the Pink Palace as it set the standard so high!

Eat…

The Ivy.

One of my fave spots, I love the pretty courtyard and buzzy atmosphere. Food is pretty incredible too, vast portions of traditional Italian dishes.

Catch.

The latest LA hotspot. A rooftop restaurant, again filled with pretty flowers. Japanese style food and fabulous cocktails. Save your best outfit for dinner at Catch.

Craig’s.

We’d heard so much about this spot and was excited to try. This traditional old-school restaurant is known for celeb spotting. Unfortunately, we didn’t spot any, but we did have a gorgeous meal. So good we couldn’t even fit in the chocolate Pizza, for which Craig’s is renowned.

Gjelina.

On Abbot Kinney, stop by for an al fresco pizza while shopping this cool street in Venice. Pop next door for a Salt & Straw after, well worth the queue.

Nobu Malibu.

Nobu on the beach, genius. We had a little road trip down to Malibu and enjoyed a long lunch on Nobu’s terrace. Request a table outside and try and pick a bright day (it was super cloudy when we were there).

Shop…

Melrose Avenue.

Violet Grey– the coolest beauty store you will ever enter. Like an old-school boudoir with cutting-edge products. Every product in the store has to be Violet approved by influential beauty editors, makeup artists and hair stylists, so you know you’re getting the best.

Zimmerman– Dreamy Dresses and separates for the ultimate holiday wardrobe.

Isabel Marant– Worth a look for the store decor and of course an effortlessly cool collection.

Anine Bing– Not on Melrose, but around the corner on W 3rd st. Stop by here for luxury basics; Khaki Jackets, Graphic Tees, and Sweatshirts.

Rose Bowl Flea Market.

The Rose Bowl has been on my bucket list for years, it’s on the second Sunday of every month, and it is vintage heaven. With everything from clothes to homewares, it was a real treat to wander around taking in the atmosphere and hunting for treasures. You do have to hunt! Aim to get there early as towards midday it was too hot, wear comfy shoes, a hat and drink plenty of water, we both left feeling slightly sun-stroked.

Do…

Take a hike- we rose early one morning and hiked up Runyon Canyon. A must while in LA. Stop off at The Chateau Marmont for breakfast after (we spotted Usher & Jude Law both enjoying brunch at this Hollywood hotspot).

Hollywood Homes Tours-  You can’t get any more touristy, but, my daughter was desperate to take a tour of the stars homes. Starline seemed to offer the best trip, and it’s an excellent way to get to know the city. The houses are incredible!

Farmer’s Market- we didn’t get time to visit but, we were told Malibu Farmer’s market is worth a visit.

What I Wore…

I didn’t do much shopping beforehand as I was banking on shopping a lot in LA, so I packed some old favourites; My Tibi Floral dress, Love Shack Fancy dress, Hermes Sliders, Re/Done Jeans & a H&M Blouse, a few other pieces mixed with my new purchases did the job.
